In view of the prevailing cold wave conditions in the Capital, the Delhi Government on Monday ordered closure of all its schools up to Class VIII for the rest of the week up to January 16. All the schools will now re-open on January 18.
Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely said the Government has decided to close down pre-primary, primary and middle classes in all Delhi Government and its aided schools under the Directorate of Education.
Stating that the decision has been taken because of requests from parents of school children and to safeguard the interest of students, Mr. Lovely said unaided recognised schools and public schools have also been advised to close down their classes for the week.
“Schools recognised by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, NDMC and the Delhi Cantonment Board have also been advised to follow the instructions in the interest of school children,” he said.
Meanwhile, Delhi Mayor Kanwar Sain and MCD Education Committee chairman Prithvi Raj Sawhney also jointly announced that all MCD and MCD-aided schools would remain closed from Tuesday. They will re-open on January 18. They also announced that teachers would, however, attend school as usual during the holidays.
