Prison In Tamilnadu

The word "Prison" synonym of the word "Jail" or "prison" or "Penitentiary" was defined as a place, properly positioned and equipped for the reception of persons of legal process is required in custody while awaiting trial or punishment.

To hold because of the severe crowding in the Central Prison, Chennai and the need to increase capacity, new prison complex at Puzhal was constructed on a total expenditure of Rs.77 crores. It consists of three prisons say. I Puzhal Central Prison with a capacity of 1250, for receipt convict prisoners, Central Prison II Puzhal with a capacity of 1250, for the reception and special remand prison for women Puzhal with a capacity of 500 for receiving female prisoners. Prison complex is located in a growing area of about 212 hectares. Construction work was carried out by Tamil Nadu Police Housing Corporation Ltd. prison starts from 26.11.2006 onwards. Additional facilities such as meditation Hall Rehabilitation Center, Open Air Theater, Gymnasium, Computer Training Center is provided. Apart from the above, all cells, blocks and hospitals in this prison is equipped with ceiling fans.

Central Prison, Coimbatore

Central Prison, Palayamkottai

This prison was built in 1880, it was acting as a District Jail till the 1929th During the year 1929 it was transformed as a Borstal School. Because of the small recording was Borstal school moved to premises in the former District Jail, Pudukottai. The current premises have served as a Central Prison with effect from 1.4.68. The former President of India Shri.R.Venkatraman was confined in this prison from 30.11.1940 to 25.09.1941 during freedom struggle. Borstal School, Pudukottai

It was initially serve as a District Prison and transformed as a Borstal School with effect from 01.04.1968. The young offenders aged 18-21 years (boys) sentenced by the courts pursuant to § 8 (1) Tamil Nadu Borstal Act 1925 is limited in that prison. The area occupied by this institution is 23.45 hectares. This prison was originally named as Presidency Jail for Women and function from 15.04.1930. The total area of this prison is 13.62 hectares. The area of the jail premises is 3.23 hectares. The female prisoners are sentenced to imprisonment for more than 3 months from all the southern states, namely Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu was originally filmed here.
